I plan to go through some of the main Trends news reported
in “TIMES TRENDS” page of today’s Times of India. Those who had not read it, they
will get a summary from this and would make them read more from the news paper.
Those who had already read it, no worries, value addition by me will always be
there. Who does not want to add value these days, especially when there is no
cost involved and no VAT, (that mysterious and never understood) tax, involved?
#1 : “To avert divorce, watch romantic films together”. A
study done on 174 couples revealed this, fairly good sample size. I hate to watch
movies, now I am thinking of going for one or two movies in a month, only the romantic
ones, of course with my wife. Those who are married, those who are getting
married soon, and those who plan to get married in the near future - all can go
and watch romantic movies. Others watch cartoons please, so that you can avoid
marriage and future need of a divorce!
#2 : “Anti prejudice app may help fight racism”. I believe
it will be a crowdsourced tracking system to report these prejudices, discriminations
and racism worldwide in real time. Very much needed in India now, I would
rather recommend taking some money from upcoming election expenses to roll out
this app in major cities. To start with, Delhi.
#3: “Now a watch that tells time by emitting smell of money,
whisky”. This watch emits smell of coffee in the morning, money in the afternoon,
whisky in the evening and chamomile fragrance at night. I definitely need one
of those watches. How many times I had dinner without having that peg of
whisky? Now there is no way I can forget it.
In fact I would like to add a few more items into it. I think it would be useful, even if the watch
becomes a bit heavier.
- Smell of soap or shampoo, at 11:30 AM to remind me to wake
up grown up children and “request” them to take a bath
- Smell of dettol or iodine tincture between 8 AM and 9 AM, when
one drives to office
- Smell of LPG at 8 PM to indicate that it is time to move
away from watching TV serials and it’s time to cook something for the dinner
- Smell of any wildlife animal (that of a tiger will do) when
its time for one’s fierce boss to arrive in office
#4: “This software
can identify a person’s true emotions. The software called, Facet, uses a
digital camera to determine whether a person is feeling a variety of emotions (joy,
sadness, surprise, anger, fear, disgust, contempt) or any combinations of these
seven emotions”. It can even catch a fake smile, I believe. Good one, I love to
have this. I want to know how many of those faces are really “smiling” at me
during my morning walk in the park, before thinking of my next steps.
I would like to see people develop more and more such
software in other areas, my needs are plenty and immediate!
-
Analyze my wife’s words when she says she does
not want to buy any more sarees in next two months. And tell me whether she means
only that or she intends to buy a gold chain after those 2 months.
-
Analyse
the body movements of that auto rickshaw driver in front me, while driving in
the middle of the road and tell me whether he will turn left or right in the
next 30 seconds.
-
Profile that orange I bought today, based on its
shape, color etc, suggest me whether I will get cold or cough or fever or all
of them together
-
Process that humming from my neighbor in the
morning and tell me whether he is in a mood today to give an evening noisy party
to his friends at his house till 12:30 night
-
Tell me whether when I post this in FB, the
person who “liked” it whether he is indicating that he had seen it. Or if he
really liked it, then tell me the percentage liking by him, one can analyze the
pressure by which he pressed that mouse button to arrive at that.
I always envy the next generation, they are going to have
many more such luxuries in life.
