While walking in my huge garden ( BBMP park ) this evening, I saw a mother and child walking towards me in the opposite direction.
It must be a 4 year old boy, fully covered with sweater, monkey cap, shoes etc etc. only his little face and small tiny fingers were exposed. The Mom had heavy make up. I will not elaborate more as one may think what type of a person I am. Just by one glimpse he d...etails so much about a person, that too about a lady. All I could make out was that she had tried hard to become urban too soon.
As they came closer, I just overheard a bit of their conversation.
The kid : "Arjun ka school mere school sey acha hey" ( Arjun's school is better than mine ).
The Mom : "nahi beta". ( no son) Then she realises that I reached too close to them. Switches to English. "No No No. Your school is the best".
And they went off. Let me try to extrapolate what would have happened next.
On the way back home the kid would have asked many valid questions like why this tree is big and the other one small, why this cat has 4 legs and I have only 2, why this grandpa limps while walking and goes on.
The Mom might be responding occasionally with a ya or na without paying much attention to his stupid questions. Her trail of thoughts would go like this :
My son,
don't you know 2 of your school kids came first in the last board exam ?
we started exploring schools when you were just 3 months old?
your dad stood overnight in the Queue at school to collect the admission form and fought with his boss to get one day's leave for that?
How much he struggled googling to get prepared for your interview ?
1/4 of your dad's salary goes out as your education fees?
dad took pf loan to pay donation at school which he needs to repay for his life time?
don't you know I discontinued watching 2 serials which I have been watching for last 4 years to help you do your home work?
don't you know I fought for an hour with your teacher to get that additional 1/2 mark in your story narration exam?
don't you know I went for the rapid english speaking course to talk to your friends' parents decently ?
Didn't I postpone my purchase of that silk saree to pay for your school picnic?
And with all this, you still think Arjun's school is better ?
And suddenly she opens up, "Beta, ghar pahuncha. pandrah minute ka khel ho gaya. Ab do ghante bytke seekho" ( Son we reached home. 15 minutes play over. Now study for 2 hours )
Who says we don't focus much on primary education ?
